I am Mark Muniz and WAKAN is the Lakota word that I've chosen to pay respect to my native ancestry. It is also the identity that represents my take on native and western art.

I was raised in the Black Hills of Wyoming and South Dakota. I grew up within thirty miles of Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse monuments; their scale and technical beauty has inspired me since I was a child.

I received a tremendous fine art education at Northwest Community College. I then acquired bachelor degrees in Communication Arts and Fine Art at Black Hills State University of South Dakota. I have been working as a commercial artist for more than 15 years. Samples of my commercial work can be viewed at www.markmuniz.com. I am currently represented by Westernheritage.com. They offer limited editions of belt buckles and Statues that I have created.
